Small Business Tip Series: OFF Page SEO- Part 3 of 3

Off page SEO

Off page SEO is primarily made up of links to your website from other websites.  I hesitate to mention off page SEO because most people do it wrong.  Heck, most SEO “experts” even do it wrong. The other aspect many “SEO Companies” or “SEO guys/girls doing this solo” is they do not incorporate 2 needed items. The #1 process many forget themselves sin NO STRATEGY. Many SEO Companies or that guy that your brother knows who does SEO out of his house guy, do not do this. There is no mapping out the process, no looking at the process with what if and how to do’s, in it. When you have a plan you can measure goals and progress and you can look at what needs to be changed if there are issues that arise. Issues like another competitor has moved past you or Google updated an algorithm and you site lost some ranking due to bad SEO techniques.

Most SEO experts assume that more links are better, no matter where they come from.  More links can actually hurt your website if they’re from low quality sources. Again as mentioned above website get ranked from N/A, 0-10. The higher the number the more authoritative it is. We call this Domain Authority. The best explanation of this is from a company called MOZ. They are some of the best gurus in the industry. Here is what they say about Domain Authority, “Domain Authority is a score (on a 100-point scale) developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engines. Use Domain Authority when comparing one site to another or tracking the “strength” of your website over time. We calculate this metric by combining all of our other link metrics—linking root domains, number of total links, MozRank, MozTrust, etc.—into a single score.

To determine Domain Authority, we employ machine learning against Google’s algorithm to best model how search engine results are generated. Over 40 signals are included in this calculation. This means your website’s Domain Authority score will often fluxuate. For this reason, it’s best to use Domain Authority as a competitive metric against other sites as opposed to a historic measure of your internal SEO efforts”.

Most link building services build links this way and it hurts businesses.  Can you imagine paying for a service that hurts your business?  You’d be surprised how many business get penalized by Google for poor link building practices. One of the other ranking is Page Authority. I won’t reinvent the wheel with this one and again us Moz from their explanation on Page Authority. Here is fro their page, “Page Authority is a score (on a 100-point scale) developed by Moz that predicts how well a specific page will rank on search engines. It is based off data from the Mozscape web index and includes link counts, MozRank, MozTrust, and dozens of other factors. It uses a machine learning model to predictively find an algorithm that best correlates with rankings across the thousands of search results that we predict against.

How is Page Authority Scored?

We score Page Authority on a 100-point, logarithmic scale. Thus, it’s easier to grow your score from 20 to 30 than it would be to grow from 70 to 80. We constantly update the algorithm used to calculate Page Authority, so you may see your score fluctuate from time to time.

Page Authority vs. Domain Authority

Whereas Page Authority measures the predictive ranking strength of a single page, Domain Authority measures the strength of entire domains or subdomains. The same is true for metrics such as MozRank and MozTrust.”.

The best SEO experts do excellent work, but they’re also very expensive.  The worst ones are often cheap and focus too much on getting more links instead of earning more links.

You earn links by creating valuable content that others want to link to and also share on Social Media.  The best links come from reputable sources that are relevant to your business.  For example, if you’re a plumber, a link from a plumber’s association is better than a link from a website about sports.  The link from the sports site isn’t inherently bad for your site (unless it’s a low quality website), it’s just not as good.

That was a short-lived overview of SEO for small business websites.  SEO can be a very complicated topic, but just stick to the basics and you’ll do better than most.  In fact, SEO is actually easier than it seems because most businesses (especially small businesses) do it poorly.

Why you need an SEO agency in today’s age!

The need for hiring and SEO agency in today age is required for a business to last and make money. In order to beat their competitors for traffic and rankings they must have a strategy from a reputable SEO and Social Media Agency. The agency must have proven skills. Don’t take the company’s word they can. Ask for clients and where they rank. Ask to speak to some of their clients for referrals. IF any question you ask seems like they are avoiding answering it, saying that’s not a good idea, or they ca not show you, these are red flags. White Rapids marketing has grown because of our Ethical SEO Results and our Transparency to our clients.  If one month we lose ranking for one reason or another, we tell you. BTW loosing ranking is not a big deal because they fluctuate from day to day and week to week sometimes. It’s the long term consistency you look for.  Also if companies do long term contracts only be aware and tread lightly. A good SEO company will trust its knowledge and experience and offer shorter term contracts or no contracts at all. White rapids offers a couple packages. Our first one is our smallest time frame which is 3 months. The reason we do this is many small business get figity and continually forget and not trust things are going right because you will not see a lot of results until month 2-3. 3 months gives us to time for you to commit so we can show you results. We even have a guarantee. If we don’t hit the goals that our company and your company make in the 3 months we give you 2 months free. When you do SEO items are typically 30 days out. So if I do something today they will not show in the search engines or rankings for 3-6 weeks typically its 30 days. So at 3 months you will see some good results. The other packages we have are 6 months and 12 months. There are significant price breaks for each. The reason for price breaks isn’t so we get you in a longer term contract, it is actually easier for us to commit to a long term plan and it is easier than if we go month to month and not know when and if it will stop. Some items are better to do and can wait if you have a client long term.
